不同的稻草，各部分的营养成分和组成与家禽的消化能力差异很大。稻草中的蛋白质含量不高，通常只占总成分的3%到6%左右。关于家禽所需的蛋白质，它只能维持在70%左右。
因此，养殖者通常需要在稻草碎料中加入含蛋白质的有机材料，以使动物饲料的营养更均衡，从而让家禽健康成长。
